Atthe moment, YSP is showing the first UK museum exhibition of work by the renowned American artist KAWS, whose wide ranging practice includes painting, sculpture, graphic design, toys and prints. The expansive Longside Gallery features the artist’s large, bright, graphic canvases immaculately rendered in acrylic paint, alongside towering sculptures in fibreglass and wood. The historically designed landscape of YSP becomes home to a series of monumental and imposing sculptures in KAWS’s trademark style – nostalgic characters in the process of growing up. The figures are friendly giants of black polymers and smooth shiny woods. We love them
Kaws A Small Lie
Next we wander in the bluebell wood
Ai Wei Wei's Iron Tree (2013) remains at the Park on long-term loan. I last saw it outside the RA!
Indoors we see Eduardo Paolozzi's exhibition. Eduardo, 1924–2005, was a central figure in British throughout the latter half of the 20th century. Responding to Surrealism and Dadaism, his innovative approach is widely viewed as a precursor to and driver of the British Pop Art movement. Paolozzi first exhibited at YSP in the early 1980s and in 1994 the Park presented a major exhibition to mark his 70th birthday.
