It's mild today, the first sign of spring is in the air. And shooting up from the ground as well.
At Christmas my daughter gave me an envelope with three buff coloured
cards in. One said 'Sick of the Fringe' Feb 18-19, followed by the
link to the website. She wanted to take me to this event at The Wellcome Collection as a late Christmas treat.
It's a slow journey with a change at Reading due to engineering works. But the roads, station and trains are all quiet and peaceful.
I love the Camden People's Theatre where we meet at 11.00. It reminds me of a small theatre we went to in Cadiz.
We are here for The Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas.
A PhD student in genetics and a gynae physio share their most controversial, evidence-based thoughts about their work in a humorous and engaging way. MC-ed by entertainer Susan Morrison, the show promotes frank conversation in a relaxed setting. 'Let's make a baby in a box; how would you like it to be?'
Just a short break for a muffin and peppermint tea at the Wellcome then we attend Life is Shit, Shit is Life which doesn't really work. But it's interesting to hear Liz Richardson's story. She is the creator of Gutted.
Some delicious soup then next up is Alix Generous, a wonderful and inspiring young woman, my daughter's age. She talks about living with high functioning autism.
Alix: 'My family is more accepting of me now I am successful'
A slow journey home, with tea at Reading. Lovely to get back and have a long hot bath and reflect on my super, very different day. One thing is clear, our society is very tolerant of difference but has a way to go. Time for a beer.
