People Power

It's the first day without rain for ages but still feels too autumnal for early August.  Not to worry, the gardens and sea are replenished and I am off to have a fun and informative day.
Yesterday in yoga my chakras were rebalanced (?!) and I feel like one of Rodin's dancers

First stop is The Hub  for a very nice coffee.  It's two minutes walk from Lambeth North tube and on my way to the Imperial War Museum
Here the story of modern conflict and how it affects people's lives is told. It's somewhere that's not interested me in the past but now I need to visit with my hat as Interpretation Working Group Chair on.  And I must say it looks to be an interesting place, but I only really have time to see my chosen exhibition and do my research.  It's very nice to walk through Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park to arrive at the museum which is in a building which used to house the Bethlem Royal Hospital.

As I wander round trying to get my bearings, I am thrilled to come across the wonderful Shipbuilding on the Clyde by my hero Stanley Spencer I sneak a photo of a section and fond memories of our local gem, Sandham Memorial Chapel flood my mind

I take a journey from the First World War to the present day, exploring how peace movements have influenced perceptions of war and conflict.
From conscientious objectors to peace camps and modern day marches, Fighting for Peace tells the stories of passionate people over the past one hundred years and the struggles they have endured for the anti-war cause.
Over three hundred objects including paintings, recordings, literature, posters, placards, banners, badges and music reveal the breadth of creativity of anti-war protest movements, reflecting the cultural mood of each era.  It's interesting to listen to Fenner Brockway and understand the different levels of conscientious objection as well as learning more about the different societal response in the second war.

I am delighted to see a Greenham Common section. I get some ideas for our own museum to be. For more info on this project click here

I paste my own ribbon

It's sunny at last as I leave the IWM

And I have time before my train to take a wander by Paddington Basin
