Heading south from Mull to Glasgow

So, with a sad and heavy heart, today it is bus from the blue dot in the map to Craignure, ferry to Oban and train (after lunch in Oban) to Glasgow.  A route I know well from way back. I have had a lovely time, but a part of me is happy to head slowly home.

We churn along through rolling hills, forests and by Clydeside

A trip to M&S and a nice walk up to my hotel.  I like to stay in the Ibis, West Prince Regent Street when in Glasgow.  It is quiet and cosy.  I settle in I would be so happy but I am deeply disturbed by the news T texted me about the murder of the MP Jo Cox.

I am rather tired.  In the Drum and Monkey I cannot make myself understood.  I apologise for my accent. It's not your accent says the dishy young barman, it's what you are saying.
I then explain how I had been sending various british accents to 'my American Friend'
His advice is .... Beware.... The US is only used to the BBC Thames Valley Accent (Hugh Grant, Boris, Cameron etc)!
Over dinner, I reflect on my  peaceful time in Mull.  I think of E's cousin, who has sheep, and of the poorly lambs.  And my oldest friend , from primary school. I hadn't seen her for ten years, as she is so far away and isolated but I am so glad I made the effort. We have a lot of shared history, fun and trauma.   I think of the groovy angry Old Labour friends in the North East of Scotland and my other friend on that side who kept me sane, when I worked in Swindon, the ar**hole of the empire.

A LibDem councillor has given my name to BBC South and they have asked me to be on local TV re Brexit and health, fortunately I am out of area but able to pass it to a much more important colleague.

Tomorrow I go to a retreat in the Lake District.  I need it.
