Should I eat an art work with my porridge? Maybe not! I am up early and off to Gallery of Modern Art or Goma. This is situated in an 18th century neo-classical building which was designed for the tobacco giant William Cunninghame, perhaps an ancestor of my artist friend?
Here is the central staircase.
The museum is quiet and the staff welcoming. It is OK to take photos. There is a library and cafe in the basement.
Ballet of the Palette is an exhibition of 20th century works belonging to GoMA and chosen by local artists. I enjoyed a video made by a conservator explaining her processes. Here are my favourites.
A Glasgow Lodging, 1953, Joan Eardley.
Bords and Tree, 1970, William Crosbie.
An Artist Sketching from a Boat, 1890s, ?Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch?
This a photograph entitled What 1991 felt like ....... (Most of the time) by Jo Spence who died of Leukaemia shortly after this work was completed.
