Today we head up to London on the lovely new 9.24 'big train', or intercity as I call them, being quite old. Still saddened by the loss of Charles Kennedy and do not think people should be calling it self destruct when there is no known cause of death as yet. That is my view. He opposed the terrible war in Iraq and got the lib dems masses of seats, although other blairite stuff also helped with that. Train is nearly empty. What style. We take the tube to Piccadilly and have coffee before meeting our lovely girl. As we wait we enjoy Conrad Shawcross's courtyard installation. The figure in the apricot dress is the TV journalist and presenter Kirsty Walk who I inadvertently (honest) capture in the frame. They are doing a programme on the preview of the Summer Show, which is tonight.
In the foyer is the funky and cheerful Jim Lamby staircase. Slighty vertiginous to climb!
We visit the Richard Diebenkorn (1922-1993) exhibition which is amazing. I knew nothing of him before today and I am really entertained. He is described as a post war American master with expressionist and figurative phases. No photos allowed so look here https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/article/richard-diebenkorn-inside-the-show
I really love his figurative phase.
We have lunch outdoors at the cafe by St James. I remember eating here in 1982 with with future husband and Mum, what a great day. The church was built by Christopher Wren. It was damaged in the second world war and rededicated in 1954.
Next I find myself on a Boris bus with my bus fanatic hubby. It's quite nice I suppose......
