Garland Day is New Year's Day and the ritual takes place in Sighthill Park. A person wearing the garland of artificial flowers wanders round the park injecting colour into the winter landscape.
On Mother's Day, the annual tradition of well dressing takes place in Motherwell.

The older generation looks at the street party and feels too tired to stand, dance or queue for beer. Five minutes later we are in the Wetherspoons on Sauchiehall Street drinking Broughton and reminiscing.
